What does a landscape project cost?

Every property is different and requires unique needs. At Klomp's Landscaping & Hot Tubs Inc. we take time determining a realistic price for service levels which meet your expectations for quality and customer service. We don't want to provide you with services which are not needed, nor do we want to exclude services which are required by your landscape.

What is your residential landscaping process?

  1. 1. Initial Consultation: The initial consultation is an informal meeting with one of our qualified landscape designers to evaluate your site, and its opportunities and constraints. Issues addressed include your wants and needs for the space as well as your individual likes and dislikes.
  2. 2. Landscape Design: A scaled, computer generated interpretation of your completed landscape project including detailed material and plant sections, is presented for your review. We request that this appointment/meeting be made at our office for ease of material viewing.
  3. 3. Construction: Our team of landscape professionals can complete the installation of your personalized landscape design or you may opt for self-installation. Whichever option you choose, your landscape design provides you with a clear vision of your landscaping endeavors.

What is Alfalfa 5-1-5?

Alfalfa 5-1-5: All- natural, organic fertilizer made with a blend of alfalfa, corn and a variety of natural plant bio-stimulants. Produced in a small crumble for easy application and timely breakdown for nutrient release with no danger of burning.

What is Corn Gluten 9-0-0?

This is a slow-releasing, nitrogen-rich fertilizer containing amino acids and minerals for beautiful turf grass and is also excellent around shrubs and ornamentals. Do not use with overseeding program until seed has germinated and grass is established.

What is Time Sav'r TM Topdressing?

Derived from leaf and yard trimmings. Easy to apply with a broadcast spreader instead of specialized compost spreaders, shovels or rakes. NO offensive odour when wet because this product does not contain fish or animal by-products. Increases soil water-holding capacity resulting in increased drought tolerance and irrigation efficiency.

What is Corn Plus 8-1-6?

This is a very unique product in the organic turf market as it contains one of the highest levels of NPK in an all-natural form. There are no synthetics or manures in this product. This product provides increased disease resistance and improves the ability to endure stressful conditions. Do not use with over seeding program unit seed has germinated and grass is established.

How do I maintain my interlocking stone?

Your interlocking stone received an initial application of polymeric sand at the time of installation. This application should be sufficient for approximately 3 to 4 years. During this time simply wash off any debris or soil that has accumulated with a garden hose. As a general rule, by about the 5th year following installation, it is good practice to power wash the entire surface and reapply the polymeric sand. Application methods vary from product to product, so be sure to follow handling and application instructions as outlined by the manufacturer.

How do you get a thick healthy lawn?

To achieve a thick, lush lawn this step is crucial. Over seeding is completed using wither a drop spreader or slit seeder with appropriate grass seed for your site. Certified seed is always used. Germination general takes 7-10 days depending on the amount of moisture available. Heavy watering is advised after completion of this step.

Why do you use topdressing?

This product increases soil water-holding capacity resulting in increased drought tolerance and increased irrigation efficiency. Acts as a chelator of nutrients, holding them in the root zone when otherwise they would be leached from the soil. No sickening smell and no stink when wet because it contains no fish or animal by-products nor manure.

What are the applications for aeration?

Aeration in spring and/or fall with help to combat soil compaction. Many lawns, particularly those that receive heavy use, have compacted soil that restricts the grass. Soil plugs or cores out of the lawn, allowing water, oxygen flow and fertilizer to reach your lawn's roots.

What kind of continuing care and monitoring is involved?

Each visit the lawn will be assessed and notes will be left behind for the client to peruse and act on. If any problems exist they will be noted and a remedy suggested. Monitoring is an essential element of any professional lawn care program.

How long does it take for grass seed to grow?

Soil and air temperature play a large role in determining the germination rate of a seed lawn. Traffic across a newly seeded area should be regulated until the roots have had the opportunity to establish – approximately 3 to 5 weeks after installation.

How often should I water my newly sodded lawn?

The average lawn requires 25mm – 35mm of water per week to be applied by either rainfall or by your watering of the lawn. Water should be applied evenly and slowly to allow penetration without run-off. When watering your lawn it is best to do it first thing in the morning before the temperatures rise. If this time is not available then water during early evening would be your next opportunity. Try not to water during the heat of the day or the cool of the night.

Bed Maintenance

Will my planting beds require additional Bark Mulch applications?

Bark mulch aides in both moisture retention and weed control in planting beds. Along with this, many people enjoy the aesthetic qualities of mulch. We recommend that planting beds maintain a layer of bark mulch that is approximately 50 – 75mm (2 – 3") thick.

When should I remove the free stakes and ties installed with my trees?

As a general rule, tree stakes and ties should be removed approximately one year after installation. Visually inspect the trees and ties from time to time over the course of the year to ensure that the ties are not girdling the bark of the tree and causing damage.

Do I need to burlap any of my plant material this winter?

Refer to your master landscape plan to determine which (if any) of your plants will require a protective layer of burlap this winter. Plants listed on the plan with an asterisk (*) will require a minimum of one years winter protection, with some plants requiring burlap to be installed annually to insure their survival.

Do I need to prune my trees and shrubs?

Trees and shrubs develop better when they are getting nutrients and pruning that they need. Pruning allows trees to grow more evenly, without dangerous low branches or crossing branches that may cause damage to the overall health of the tree. Shrubs should be pruned on a regular basis to keep them from overgrowing and to allow more sunlight to reach the inner part of the plant.
